We knew Diablo Immortal was going to be a divisive mobile game when it released, but it looks like the community has come together to share a communal hatred for the game from Blizzard. The game has a user score on Metacritic of 0.6.

On the Google Play Store, Diablo Immortal is currently rocking a 3.6 score out of 5. Surprisingly, on Apple’s App Store, the game has a score of 4.7 out of 5.

It is, however, important to remember that review bombing is limited on these platforms and it is possible both Apple and Google have been removing reviews.

Diablo Immortal is struggling this morning as people realize that the game is a shameless money grab. It’s a shame, as Diablo Immortal does capture the gameplay of Diablo III. But, unlike Diablo III, monetization elements stop this game from being great, or even good.

Essentially, the game is a solid action RPG (ARPG) until you reach end-game. Then, it becomes clear that players will need to spend money (up to $100,000) to improve their chances of getting end-game gear and gems.

In some instances, these paid mechanics fill like loot boxes with extra steps. As mobile gamers, we understand that money can improve your experience, but Diablo Immortal has taken it to a completely different level.

We’re really not sure Blizzard can do anything at this point. The game already had an uphill battle after its release and the cringy “Do you guys not have phones?” statement during the announcement.

Adding this level of monetization is not only a slap in the face to mobile gamers, but fans of the epic series that is Diablo, as well.
