In Pokémon Go, one of the ways players enjoy the hit mobile game is by putting their prized Pokémon in the PvP ring. But, that begs the question – Are Pokémon Go battles real time?

Essentially, what we’re asking here is if players play against other real, human players in real, human time. While it might not seem like a big deal, it actually is. That’s because real players are going to react differently than AI, regardless of how “real” it seems.

Thankfully, Pokémon Go battles in PvP are in real-time. This is why players always have a choice between a couple of different leagues each week. By limiting the number of choices, it helps bring all the players together to make sure you always have a real person to battle against.

That means that you can’t cheese PvP modes in Pokémon Go. You’ll always need to bring your A game to make sure you defeat the other player’s team of three.

Make sure you know when to use your shields, as you only have two per match. Also, you’ll want to brush up on all of the types and their effectiveness and weaknesses. Your favorite Fire-type Pokémon is never going to do well against even the weakest Water-type.

There you go, a quick guide to understanding Pokémon Go PvP battles and if you are actually playing against real people. Good luck out there!
