The Nintendo Switch is a great mobile console. If you’re strapped for cash, there are even free games you can play on it.

Much like F2P mobile games, there are fun Switch games out there that use in-game purchases while providing a base experience for free.

We’ve gathered some of our favorite free Nintendo Switch games below.

Best free Nintendo Switch games to check out in 2023

Thankfully, Nintendo has started stocking up on free-to-play titles, so regardless of what you like, you should be able to find something to play.

Guardian Tales

If you love pixelated games and want a fun action-adventure puzzler, you can’t go wrong with Guardian Tales.

This F2P title allows for dozens of hours of gameplay without spending a dime and you earn enough premium currency through playing to get exciting characters and weapons every few months (or weeks if you are lucky on your pulls).

Additionally, the writing in this game is top-notch and genuinely funny. We highly recommend Guardian Tales on Switch.

Fortnite

Yeah, yeah, yeah. We get it. It’s Fortnite. You either love it or hate it or simply meme on it.

But regardless, if you are a battle royale fan and want something that is packed with gameplay and skins, you can’t go wrong with Fortnite.

Brawlhalla

If you love fighting games and love the platform battling aspect of Super Smash Bros., Brawhalla offers a similar experience for free.

It features tight fighting mechanics and a huge roster of characters to try out. We’re certain you’ll find an awesome main in no time.

It makes money through a battle pass and cosmetic options, but you can enjoy the absolute heck out of this game for free.

Pokémon Café ReMix

If you love Pokémon and puzzle games, you can’t go wrong with Pokémon Café ReMix.

Released in 2020, you’ll need to work together with your Pokémon to create different food and drinks to serve to your customers.

The game makes money through premium packs that offer boosters and other advantages to help you push through the game’s more challenging puzzles.

Omega Strikers

If you like soccer, Pong, and sick character designers, Omega Strikers is absolutely worth checking out.

This free Nintendo Switch game looks stunning and we can’t wait to master this game. We love unique takes on team-building games, and Omega Strikers looks to scratch that itch.

Fall Guys

If you are looking for a fun multiplayer game that is guaranteed to provide tons of laughs (and only a couple of thrown controllers), Fall Guys is that game.

This obstacle course battle royale has a ton of levels and cosmetics to unlock and we have truly enjoyed our time with the game.

It’s not as popular as it was when it released, but there is still an active, robust player base so you don’t need to worry about empty lobbies.

Rocket League

Another soccer-type game for the list, Rocket League isn’t in its prime anymore, but don’t let that stop you from trying it out.

We have 2,000 hours in Rocket League on Steam and that’s because of how addicting the gameplay is. It feels so great to see your hard work pay off as you learn new mechanics and dominate the competition.

The game makes money through battle passes and cosmetic purchases, but monetization efforts do not limit gameplay at all.

Smite

Love MOBA games and want that experience on Switch? Smite is a F2P MOBA that gets a lot right.

While somewhat similar to games like League of Legends, Smite differentiates itself by giving you a third-person perspective instead of the traditional isometric view.

Smite’s use of mythological gods and a ton of collaborations means players can find characters and skins to match their individuality.

The game makes money through battle passes, new heroes, and cosmetic purchases.

Free Nintendo Switch games continue to impress

F2P play games have traditionally been associated with money-grab mobile games, but that has changed in recent years.

Nintendo has fully embraced its mobility and that means gamers have a ton of great choices.

We’ll continue to update this list as we play more of these titles, but seriously, you can’t go wrong with any of these.
