What’s good against Thundurus (Incarnate) in Pokémon Go?

Thundurus (Incarnate) is the latest 5-star raid boss to hit Pokémon Go. The Pokémon has a unique design (which can be shiny!) and if you have a small raid team, you’ll want to know the best Pokémon to use against it.

First off, Thundurus (Incarnate) is an Electric/Flying Pokémon. That means the Electric side will be weak against Ground-type Pokémon.

Flying, on the other hand, is weak against Electric, Rock, and Ice.

Because of this, veteran players should have a wide variety of options. But newer players shouldn’t stress it either, as you should have some solid options.

When deciding on the Pokémon to use in this fight – we recommend Ground and Ice types first.

These are our favorite Thundurus counters:

  • Abomasnow (Mega)
  • Rhyperior
  • Kyogre
  • Glalie (Mega)
  • Groudon
  • Terrakion
  • Darmanitan (Galarian)
  • Aerodactyl (Mega)
  • Gigalith
  • Excadrill

This is but a small list of possible options you can take into battle with you. We tried to include some common options for newer players, as well.

It’s important to remember that past the Pokémon itself, having the right movesets is important.

On the above Pokémon, look for Ground and Ice moves. That will give you a big advantage in the fight.

If you are a newer player, and don’t have access to any of these Pokémon, it’s not the end of the world. Prioritize high CP Pokémon that meet the criteria outlined above.

Swampert (Mega) is another great choice, so definitely feel comfortable slotting that into your Raid party.

Additionally, Mega versions of Blaziken, Rampardos, Charizard, and Manectric can also perform well.

How many people do you need for Thundurus (Incarnate)?

We’ve only done a handful of Thundurus (Incarnate) raids so far, but we do have a pretty good idea of how many players you’ll need.

A group of higher level Trainers (Level 40+) that have invested heavily into some of the best counters should be able to clear the raid with 4 people. Bring five to be safe, however.

A group of lower level Trainers, however, will need to shoot for at least 6 players total.

Get out there and raid

Thundurus (Incarnate) will be available in Pokémon Go raids from March 21st to March 28th.

That gives you a week to grind out candy and hopefully catch a Shiny version or a Hundo (or maybe even the elusive Shundo) of the Pokémon.
