Can you get more than two Meteorites for Rayquaza in Pokémon Go?

How many mega-evolved Rayquaza can you have in Pokémon Go?

Mega Rayquaza has hit the scene in Pokémon Go. If you played during Global GoFest 2023, you probably snagged a bunch of the Dragon-type Pokémon, but quickly realized you need a special Meteorite to unlock their mega-evolution.

This is different than other mega-evolutions in the game. Typically you just need Mega Energy to trigger the evolution, but that’s not the case here.

This Meteorite is used to teach Rayquaza Dragon Ascent. Once applied, you gain access to the mega-evolution through the use of Mega Energy.

But, one Meteorite was obtained through a quest during Global GoFest. And paid ticket holders could snag a second Meteorite. So, does that mean you can only mega-evolve two Rayquaza in Pokémon Go?

We’ll cut to the chase – It is/was technically possible to get more than two Meteorites for the Rayquaza mega-evolution, but the chances are low (and maybe impossible now).

Essentially, besides the two you got from quests during Global GoFest, each Raquaza raid had a small chance of dropping an additional Meteorite.

And when we say ‘small’ chance, we mean small change. Our group did a combined 60 raids and didn’t get a single additional Meteorite. RIP.

It’s unclear if future Rayquaza raids will have the chance to drop Meteorites, but we’re not holding our breath. We think it is much more likely that this mechanic will continue to be event-specific.

So, hopefully, you were able to play during Global GoFest in August 2023 to get the super-rare Meteorite. If not, keep an eye out for future events.
