If you are on an older smartphone, you might have noticed that Pokémon Go can be a resource hog. Is there anything you can do to help with that? Can you lower the resolution in Pokémon Go?

Having a smooth gameplay experience makes video games better, and Pokémon Go is no exception. Having to throw Pokéballs with a laggy game is difficult and not fun in the least.

Imagine you are on your last Premiere ball of a 100% IV raid Pokémon, your game hangs up as you wind up your throw, and you miss the Pokémon. It would be enough to make you quit the game.

So, do you have options?

Sadly, you cannot lower the resolution in the Pokémon Go app. It simply isn’t possible. Developer Niantic does not offer any features that make the game run smoother.

If you are having issues running the game, your main option is to make sure your phone isn’t using a bunch of resources on other apps.

All hope is not lost, however. If you are on Android, you can actually change your screen resolution. While this fix isn’t for everyone, it may be worth exploring if your performance is unbearable.

Samsung users can also look into Game Tuner to try and improve performance, but this isn’t compatible with all Samsung phones.

Past that, however, your best option is to get a new phone that can better run the game. Sadly, for most of us, that isn’t something we can do at any time.
