Zenless Zone Zero is the latest mobile game from HoYoverse. But is it a gacha game?
We’ll cut to the chase. Yes, Zenless Zone Zero is a gacha game. You’ll be able to roll for characters and maybe weapons, as well.
Gacha games aren’t for everyone, but HoYoverse does have a pretty solid track record. Genshin Impact, for example, has a decent pity system, but it can be hard to save up enough currency for the characters you want.
Honkai Impact 3rd is a bit more generous with its characters and currency, however.
Zenless Zone Zero gacha rates
At present, we don’t know what the gacha rates will be like in ZZZ.
If we look at some of HoYoverse’s other games though, and gacha games as a whole, we can get a pretty good idea.
We expect that ZZZ’s gacha rates for the highest-rarity characters and weapons will be approximately 1%.
That could be a good or bad thing, depending on pity systems and how easily players can earn premium currencies.
Gacha doesn’t have to be a negative term
Look, we get it, gacha games have a bad reputation. And, honestly, that reputation is often deserved.
These games can be built on predatory tactics. But, developers can properly balance the experience to make it enjoyable for both free-to-play players and whales.
Time will tell if ZZZ gets it right, but again, HoYoverse has been making some solid strides in the gacha world, so our hopes are high.
Zenless Zone Zero is expected to release in 2023, you can learn more about it here.
