It might not feel like it, but it has been six years since Pokémon Go was unleashed on the world. Now, a new report shows that people have spent $6 billion on the game since its release.

This data comes from Sensor Tower, a company focused on providing analytics in fields like mobile spending. From its report, Pokémon Go players have already spent $198 million in Q1 of 2022.

If you break down the data by year, players are spending an average of $1 billion a year on the hit mobile game.

It was assumed Covid lockdowns would slow spending down. But Niantic, the developer behind the game, managed to pivot and created systems that supported people staying in their homes.

Thanks to this, Niantic has managed to keep interest and drive mobile spending in the game.

Player spending in Pokémon Go is high, but not totally surprising. Niantic has the opportunity to leverage one of the biggest IPs in the world. Additionally, we’re seeing a steady increase in mobile gaming, so it’s really the perfect storm.

Pokémon Go is by far the company’s most popular IP. Recently, Niantic released Pikmin Bloom, but it has mostly been quiet.
