If you are looking for a new way to play games on the go, the upcoming Razer Edge 5G might be for you.

Game streaming continues to be a hot-button topic and now, Verizon and Razer are teaming up for a handheld with 5G. That means better connectivity and less lag.

But, with the announcement being so fresh, there are still a lot of questions surrounding the Razer Edge 5G. Here’s what we know so far from our research.

Now that RazerCon is over, we know a bit more about the upcoming handheld from Razer.

The Razer Edge will release in January 2023. That is for the Wi-Fi only model, with a 5G model planned for “early 2023.”

The Razer Edge will set you back $399. That’s for the Wi-Fi version that is releasing in January.

If you want the 5G model, it is expected to run a similar price.

Like the Steam Deck, interested buyers can reserve the Wi-Fi version for $5 down. This will be available through the Razer Store and select Verizon locations.

Razer Edge 5G features

The Razer Edge features a 6.8-inch OLED screen. That screen has a very impressive 144Hz refresh rate.

It contains 128GB of onboard storage. That might seem a bit low, but we expect cloud gaming, which doesn’t need storage, to be a star of the show.

It has Bluetooth 5.2 and Wi-Fi 6E connectivity. On the inside, it uses a G3x Gen 1 chipset that should power everything nicely. It’s powered by a 5,000mAh battery.

There’s also a front-facing camera that we assume could be used for game streaming on sites like Twitch.

On the controls end, expect a couple of thumbsticks, a D-pad, a standard button layout, and should triggers. Imagine the Steam Deck or Nintendo Switch, and you should have a pretty good idea of the layout.

Finally, as the name implies, one model of the Razer Edge will include 5G. It is still unclear about what bands it will use.

Handhelds are taking the gaming world by storm

Razer’s upcoming offering is just the latest in a growing list of handheld game consoles. Valve’s Steam Deck is hugely popular, as is the Nintendo Switch.

Then, you have companies like LG joining the space, as well. Companies are seeing the benefits of game streaming and with 5G networks continuing to improve worldwide, the time is right to enter the space.

With so many companies looking towards this future, it’s definitely an exciting time to be a mobile gamer. Razer is no stranger to gaming, so we have high hopes for the Razer Edge 5G when it releases.

And let’s not forget that Microsoft is now looking at the mobile space. The Razer Edge could be great for its mobile push.
