Overwatch 2 (which is getting a Nintendo Switch release) has had its fair share of issues leading up to its free-to-play release on October 4. But Overwatch’s legacy still lingers in the new game. This begs the question – Will Overwatch 2 have loot boxes?
Loot boxes have become an infamous term in the world of gaming. Gacha games base their entire existence around a similar mechanics, but console and PC gamers typically have a different attitude around the mechanic.
The original Overwatch featured loot boxes that allowed people to obtain new skins for characters. The loot boxes were met with mixed results, but eventually, the drama made its way to many governments. Even now, consumer groups in Europe are pushing for regulations.
Will Overwatch 2 have loot boxes?
All of that leads us to today and Overwatch 2. Thankfully, Overwatch 2 will not feature loot boxes when it releases.
This is great news for fans of the series. Many people were worried about monetization since Overwatch 2 is going to a free-to-play model.
Players will be able to earn a variety of cosmetics through battle pass systems and other in-game currencies.
Overwatch 2 will be available on PC, Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo Switch on October 4, 2022.
